The Shin family has had their business for more than thirty years in Prince George’s County, Maryland. For 22 years it was next to the College Park Airport. For 15 years it has been at this location. General Auto Body, Inc. is a full service automotive body and paint facility. They repair all foreign and domestic cars and they are Japanese car specialists. Insurance claims are accepted and for more than 30 years all of their work has been guaranteed.

A famous person once said that the past is prologue. When you need to have your vehicle entrusted to a craftsman so that it might return to a condition from which it was removed, think about what a craftsman really does.

These photographs are of a large bus that was constructed from scrap metal in Korea. Many years were spent in its construction with a small handful of diligent hard workers. The metal came from the U.S. military scrap heap. At that time it was the custom for the U.S. military bases stationed in Korea to sell off the metal from their retired vehicles. The engine came from a U.S. military jeep no longer in service. The engine was carefully fitted into the frame. Then it was hammered, welded, and shaped by hand. The hard workers crafted everything, except the glass. They mostly used small hand tools. Large heavy machinery was not available at that time. As far as it is known, the bus was in use for a great number of years.
One of the craftsmen responsible for most of the designing and shaping of the body was Hyun J. Shin, the founder of this auto body establishment. As one of the artists who made this bus, he feels a certain sense of pride at his handiwork.
He and the current owner, Henry Shin, who is I-CAR® certified, wanted to share with you this memory of craftsman yesterday and today.
